Classes


A Free class for customers who have recently purchased an Embroidery machine from KTR Sewing Centre. This Class is an introduction to hooping fabric and stabilizer and stitching out your first embroidery design. We will talk about appropriate needles and thread for embroidery. You will also learn how to prepare your fabric, proper hooping techniques, selecting a design, understanding the stitch out screen, changing thread color during your stitch out, proper pressing once the embroidery is complete and understanding the set menu to personalize your embroidery settings

You will become familiar with your embroidery machine's build-in editing features and how to transfer designs from your computer to your embroidery machine.

This class is an introduction to the use of stabilizers and different hooping methods. It is in lecture/demo format (you don't need to bring your machine).

These classes are for customers who have purchased new machines from our store. You will become familiar with your machine, its parts and their functions, threading, bobbin winding, balancing tension, machine needles (which one to use when), machine maintenance and troubleshooting. This class is a prerequisite for all other Machine Mastery classes

You will become familiar with basic utility stitches including what stitches to use when sewing with knits, overcasting seams, blind hem, jeans hem, buttonholes and sewing buttons on with your machine. You will create samples to keep for reference

Basic quilting techniques will be covered including how to get a scant 1/4 seam allowance, using your walking foot (even feed/dual feed foot) to quit layers by stitching decorative stitches. You will learn how to set up your machine for free motion quilting. As well, you will try your hand at blanket stitch applique. You will create samples to keep for reference.

This level is for those who have a computerized machine with memory and programming functions.

This class introduces you to blanket stitch applique. You will practice this stitch on a variety of shapes in order to master outside corners, curves, circles, inside corners and other challenging shapes.

If you are ready to try quilting, this class is a great place to start. A new endeavour can seem a little overwhelming at first; however, we will ease you into this creatively satisfying hobby. You will be introduced to the “language” of quilting as well as basic quilting skills such as preparing your fabric, accurate rotary cutting, finding a perfect scant ¼” seam on your machine, strip piecing, matching seams, pressing techniques, squaring up your blocks, adding borders, quilting your quilt, and finishing it with binding. You are guaranteed a successful first quilt with this quick and easy project. Four patch blocks are alternated with a plain block of a busy, focus fabric. Course Level: Novice

A total of 28 designs will be stitched with design placement giving the illusion of a Christmas Tree Note: Some resigns require up to a 260mm x 200mm (10" x 8") hoop. Prerequisite: You must know how to use your embroidery machine including any design placement features.

We welcome Shirley Hartwick back again to teach you how to make this great bag to take to your next class or quilting retreat. Whether you are relatively new to machine embroidery, very experienced, or fall into the category of those who have despaired of ever getting the upper hand with your embroidery machine, you will receive a wealth of helpful information on stabilizers, threads, needles, and marrying designs to fabrics as you embroider variety of designs. You will be exposed to an array of embroidery projects that will greatly expand your knowledge and create a greater comfort level for projects that you embroider at home. It doesn’t take many embroidery projects to realize embroidery is a progressive learning process. You are invited to join this club that is structured to make your journey through the world of embroidery one that is eye opening and rewarding. We will meet once a month in a lecture/demo format where new projects will be introduced, we will have discussions regarding your embroidery challenges, you will be inspired by the ‘show and share’ of other members’ embroidery projects and you will socialize with other embroidery enthusiasts.
